Detailed description of the couple (likely to contain spoilers)Benedetta and Bartolomea first meet when Bartolomea is seeking help at the refuge. Benedetta takes care of her as she is introduced into the Nun lifestyle. This causes them to form a close bond. We see their relationship really form when Benedetta falls ill and is plagued by religious visions of Gods death. Bartolomea supports her through these visions. Eventually they are caught out when Benedetta becomes the Reverend Mother. After Bartolomea sort of saves her from the consequences they end up going their own ways.
